The purpose of the WCHC shall be to preserve, protect and promote history within the county and to that end the WCHC shall:

Support, whenever possible, programs suggested by the Wood County Commissioner’s Court and the Texas Historical Commission for the preservation of the county’s historic cultural resources;

Conduct continuing programs of historical marker recommendations and placements in accordance with the Texas Historical Commission requirements;

Promote the preservation of historic cemeteries;

Make recommendations to the Wood County Commissioners Court for property acquisition, real or personal, which is of historical significance;

Record and promote Wood County history through research, publication, educational programs, maps, brochures, oral history interviews, recorded talks and written submissions and make available for public assess;

Operate and manage any museum owned or leased by Wood County, acquire artifacts and other museum collections in the name of the museum or WCHC, adhere to professional standards in care, collection, management, and interpretation of artifacts and supervise any volunteers to operate a museum.
